The Saanich Peninsula: From Farmland To Silicon
Chips
A High Tech Hub By The Sea
For
over 100 years, the central region and the Northern tip of the Saanich
Peninsula has been Victoria's garden. Today the area is in a transition.
Where a hundred farmers once toiled on the land, today five times
that many scientists study, analyze and produce results in numerous
labs.
The North Saanich and Sidney area is a home to a blend of high
tech companies, university research centres, and federal research
labs.
It's not hard to see why people from all around the world move
here. The average January temperature is 10 degrees Celsius. One
in every six families own a boat, which reflects in a less stressful
lifestyle. Residents spend considerably more than the national average
on recreation; books and other leisure activities.
